Sarcoptes scabei (scabies mite) ventral view of female (250-350 microns) host specific, the saliva has a proteolytic enzyme and the scabies rash is a follicular papular eruption. (in S/O Astigmata - small mites with no stigmata , breath through body surface). To examine: Measurements are vital for id of parasites. Mount mites directly in Gum Arabic/ glycerine/ chloral hydrate solution or use drop lactophenol blue or chlorlactophenol, ring with nail polish for a temporary mount or semi-permanent mount - use melted jelly and ring with nail polish or permanent mounts immerse in Decon 90 over night, dehydrate with alcohols, clear methyl salicylate and mount canada balsam.
